An eight-year-old boy has died after eating strawberries purchased at a school fundraiser.

The child from Madisonville Kentucky was found unresponsive on Friday morning after experiencing allergy-like symptoms the night before, according to his parents.

Police were called to the home at around 6.30am on March 15 after the family attempted to wake the boy up for school.

He was pronounced deceased 'a short time later', Madisonville Police Department reports.

The young boy developed a rash after eating strawberries from a joint fundraiser for Madisonville North Hopkins High School and Hopkins County Central High School Athletics on Thursday.

As his symptoms continued into the evening, the boy's parents gave him an antihistamine and a bath, according to Fox News.

However, his symptoms only became worse, with his family deciding to take him to a local hospital at around 10.30 pm that same night.
