Mother's fury after being told to 'hide' to breastfeed her baby at Premier Inn ... trends now Kelly Corbin was humiliated by staff at one of the hotel chains in Admiral Park She was reduced to tears after being told to feed her baby away from the public By Dan Woodland Published: 13:57 GMT, 19 March 2024 | Updated: 14:02 GMT, 19 March 2024 Viewcomments A mother has spoken of her fury after she was told to 'hide' in a corner to breastfeed her baby at a Premier Inn. Kelly Corbin was humiliated by staff at one of the hotel chain's restaurants in Guernsey after she was ordered to feed her baby 'out the way of the public' because 'the residents won’t like it'. The devoted parent, who had already been suffering with postnatal anxiety, left the hotel in tears and was forced to feed her 'crying, hungry' baby in the car following the traumatic ordeal. Kelly took to social media on Saturday to tell of how the 'terrible' incident has 'knocked everything out of me' and left her doubting whether she will ever breastfeed in public again. But her post inspired other parents to launch a show of support, with dozens of mothers staging a protest at the hotel in Admiral Park, to speak out against the 'discrimination' that Kelly faced. It's taking everything in me not to go and buy some formula and end our breast-feeding journey. 'As a new mum again who has suffered immensely with postnatal anxiety, this has well and truly knocked everything out of me, just as I was picking myself up with my mental health. Shame on you. 'I don't think I will ever breast-feed her in public again.' Kelly said she was asked by a member of hotel staff to feed her baby 'out of the way of the public as they won't like it'. A call out was then made for by outraged fellow mother Rebecca Greening to 'breast-feeding women past, present and future to gather at the hotel to show support and make a stand'. The group assembled and walked across the road to the hotel to enter the same restaurant, many of them with young children. Kelly didn't participate in the protest gathering as she was still too upset to return to the hotel. One mother said: 'The feeling among us is this type of request is unacceptable in modern society and led to unnecessary hurt for a mother trying to feed her young child.' Another said: 'I faced a similar confrontation three decades ago, which was out of order at that time and even more so today.' Premier Inn has since apologised for the incident and said the request from a staff member went against its internal policies. The Premier Inn was one of the first developments completed as part of the recent Admiral Park regeneration. 'Breast-feeding mothers are whole-heartedly welcome in all our sites across the UK' a Premier Inn spokesperson said. They added the company has 'reached out to Ms Corbin to make amends - what happened resulted from confusion between one of our team members and her'. 'We're proud to be a family-friendly business and it's really important to us that all our guests including new mums and their babies have a relaxing, comfortable and enjoyable experience when they stay, enjoy a coffee or dine with us. 'We're sorry for the confusion between one of our team members and Ms Corbin in our Guernsey hotel and we wish to apologise to her.'
