A classic car driven by Steve McQueen in his final film is now up for sale for more than $6,000 - after it was left forgotten in a barn for nearly 40 years.

The 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am was used as a stunt vehicle in the late actor's final film, the 1980 action thriller 'The Hunter'.

The car remained in the Pontiac Motor Division show car fleet following its assembly in November 1978 before it was sold to Paramount Pictures a year later - where it was used in the flick.

The vehicle is one of two cars used for an explosion scene in the movie and was given to a farmer in Illinois as compensation for aiding the crew in the production of the film.
