A growing number of groups ranging from climate activists to labor unions have pledged an unprecedented amount of cash totaling $1 billion to help get Joe Biden reelected as he gears up for a likely rematch with former President Donald Trump come November.

The latest pledge came from the League of Conservation Voters (LCV) Victory Fund, which announced on Tuesday it was spending $120 million in the 2024 cycle, the most the clean environment advocacy group has ever spent in an election cycle.

It comes as Biden has amassed a massive war chest as he recently received enough delegates to clinch the Democratic presidential nomination.

The president's campaign has $155 million cash on hand, the most of any Democratic candidate at this point in a cycle his campaign said. He received his strongest grassroots fundraising month to date in February when the campaign raised $53 million.

Biden's available cash is believed to have far surpassed former President Trump's campaign war chest as the ex-president also faces mounting legal costs.

Trump, who clinched enough delegates last week to be the GOP presidential nominee, only formed a joint fundraising account with the Republican National Committee recently. There was about $40 million cash available between the two of them at the end of January, according to election filings.

The unprecedented outside cash sum totaling $1 billion being spent in support of Biden was reported by the New York Times on Tuesday.
