BBC presenter Glenn Campbell was airlifted from a mountainside after becoming unwell minutes into a five-hour trek.

The broadcaster, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year, was at the start of his ascent up a 3,425ft Munro when he fell ill.

The political journalist was airlifted from the scene, a short walk from the Ben Lawers car park near Killin, Perthshire, after mountain rescue teams were summoned to the hillside to help him.

Mr Campbell yesterday said: ‘I was sorry not to be able to climb Meall nan Tarmachan on Sunday because I became unwell ten minutes’ walk from the Ben Lawers car park.

‘I am very grateful to my experienced hiking partner and other walkers for making me comfortable on the hill and to the emergency services for their impressive response.’

Killin Mountain Rescue and Tayside Mountain Rescue were dispatched to the scene after the alarm was raised, with Mr Campbell treated on the hillside before he was airlifted to the nearest hospital. The team said Mr Campbell was airlifted by Rescue 199 helicopter, and added: ‘We wish the casualty well.’
