Now the sword wielded by Mel Gibson in Braveheart has sold for £60,000 at an auction in the US.
The two-handed claymore was seen throughout the 1995 Oscar-winning film about the 13th-century Scots freedom fighter.
Gibson, who picked up an Academy Award for best director, typically wore the weapon on his back when charging at the enemy armed with a war hammer. He switched to the sword to cut down his foes.
Originally designed by armourer Simon Atherton, it has distinctive marks on the pommel which can be seen in the movie.
