The campaign of a former staffer to disgraced fabulist ex-Congressman George Santos who launched his own bid for Congress suffered a series of embarrassing missteps on Tuesday accidentally conceding a primary in Ohio before polls even closed.
Derek Myers is one of ten candidates running in the Republican primary for Ohio’s 2nd Congressional District.
On Tuesday just after 3pm ET, his campaign sent out an email with the subject line ‘Derek Myers concedes Congressional race.’
But polls in Ohio did not close until 7:30pm ET.
‘Tonight did not go as we had hoped, but as we know, this race is decided in the primary,’ the statement from Myers in the early email read.
‘I want to give my congratulations to the Congressman-Elect. I'm looking forward to uniting behind him and working with him to get President Trump re-elected to the White House and evicting Joe Biden,' he continued.
It said Myers was watching the results at a ‘private watch party in Chillicothe, surrounded by 100 of his closest friends and supporters.'
Less than ten minutes, the campaign sent out a second message email ‘DISREGARD CONCESSION EMAIL.’
