A woman has died after her husband allegedly drove drunk into a lake.

The incident happened Friday night in Arizona, and saw 35-year-old Megan Maiorana lose her life.

The car she was in crashed into a lake inside the gated Canta Mia community in Goodyear, and her husband of nine years, 35-year-old Anthony Maiorana, was allegedly the one behind the wheel.

Police say he crashed into a concrete culvert before flying some 100 feet and into the body of water. The car eventually sunk, but Anthony was able to make it outside. His beloved wasn't so lucky.

Court paperwork shows that once arrested, Anthony told officers the couple had been at a baseball game, where he only had 'two beers.'

Detectives say they found he had been driving with a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit, adding that they believe speed also played a part in the crash.

'A dive team responded to the scene and was able to confirm there was another occupant in the vehicle that was deceased,' police said in a statement.

Divers later recovered Megan's body, still strapped into her seat, cops in Maricopa County said.

She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Following the incident, Anthony was hospitalized and subsequently taken into custody at Maricopa County jail, the bulletin further revealed.

Witnesses who saw the crash - and its immediate aftermath - told investigators that first, Anthony somehow managed to exit the vehicle before it sunk.

Once outside, he began frantically calling for his spouse, they recalled - before the magnitude of the situation started to set in.

A 911 call was made, and cops soon descended on the 55 and older community near Estrella Parkway and Willis Road.

Divers were then deployed to carry out a life saving operation, but were too late to make a difference.
