San Francisco's famous 4/20 at 'Hippie Hill' event has been canceled over 'safety concerns.'

Less than a month away from the highly anticipated event, organizers announced on Tuesday that it would be canceled this year.

According to a message posted on the event's website, the city's budget, the 'climate of the cannabis industry' and the economy all played a role in the decision.

'We have been unable to secure enough financial sponsorship to get everything required for a safe, clean, city & state compliant event,' the announcement said.

The event, which has been rooted in the Bay Area's history since 1967 during the Summer of Love counterculture movement, is known for its all day festivities, including food vendors, music and loads of marijuana.

In leu of the event, organizers took to Instagram and encouraged the stoner community to to support their local dispensaries on April 20 and invited attendees to come to Carnival San Francisco in late May.

Known as the largest cannabis event in the state, which legalized marijuana in 2016, tickets for the gathering are free but VIP options were available for purchase.

In 2023, 20,000 people showed up to Golden State Park. According to the event's website, spectators are allowed to bring their own cannabis but are also encouraged to purchase from the many vendors in attendance.

The event has previously featured celebrity guests like Richie Rich, Erykah Badu and even professional boxer Mike Tyson.

Commenters flooded the cancelation post online with a majority of them disagreeing with the decision.

'And people will still show up,' one said.

'Noooooo!! I'm sure someone will get a Go Fund me going,' another said.
