The crushing Gen Z verdict on Kylie Minogue that sealed the fate of Splendour ... trends now

Young Aussies have revealed what they think about music festival Splendour in the Grass being cancelled, with many claiming the cost of living, poor marketing and the 'shocking' line-up were to blame.

The iconic three-day music festival, which was set to be held from July 19 to 21 at North Byron Parklands. was scrapped on Tuesday.

Sources claimed the festival was most likely cancelled because of poor ticket sales, but organisers said in a statement it was due to 'unexpected events'.

Australian pop princess Kylie Minogue, 55, was set to headline the event along with other popular artists including G Flip. Arcade Fire and Future.

Daily Mail Australia spoke to young Aussies about the shock cancellation on Wednesday.

Emma, 23, who has previously been to Splendour in the Grass, said the 'shocking lineup' stopped her from buying tickets for this year's event.

'Kylie Minogue and G Flip, I wouldn't pay money to see them,' Emma said.

'They're not really the artists for the Splendour crowd. Everyone is into DJs at the moment.'

Emma's friend, 23-year-old Solveigh agreed, claiming the lineup was 'not the scene' for her generation.

'Slay Kylie, but I feel like she's just not the vibe,' Solveigh said.

'I think they've lost touch with the Splendour crowd and it appeals to a generation that's not into the three-day camping scene at festivals.'

Solveigh added the cost of living has also deterred young Aussies from heading to the music festival.

'With Splendour being up in Byron it's just a long way for people to travel and has become too expensive,' Solveigh said.

'If it was in Sydney or somewhere closer to a major city, there would be more people keen to go but because it's so far away, it's a lot more effort to spend money on accommodation, tickets, travel.'

Damo, 21, told Daily Mail Australia that the lineup of of Kylie Minogue, Future and Arcade Fire did not 'synergise'.

'They just don't seem like similar genres to each other, so people were put off by that,' Damo said.

'Some of my friends were thinking of going but they were just not that excited about it. Kylie Minogue and Future are pretty great artists but not together. They wouldn't pull the same kind of crowd.'

Byron Bay local Montana lives right next to where Splendour in the Grass is held and said the cancellation was devastating for local businesses.

'It sucks because a lot of the businesses and vendors really rely on the festival, especially around that time it's such busy period for our small town,' Montana said.

The 21-year-old said young Aussies were 'put off' attending the festival due to last year's lack of tickets and the 'bad rep' the event received after wild weather hit the event leading to it being dubbed 'Splendour in the Mud'.

'It used to be something we would forward too but I think because of the bad rep last year, it's just dropped off'.

She added the line-up was also not appealing to the Splendour masses, with crowds looking to events such as Listen Out.

Ellie, 29, didn't even hear about Splendour in the Grass this year and believes poor marketing and the cost of living dampened ticket sales.

'I saw no advertisements for it, which is a shame cause the lineup sounds pretty massive and if I heard about it I would have definitely considered going,' Ellie said.

'The cost-of-living has definitely impacted people buying tickets to festivals, I think people have other priorities right now.

'I'd definitely question buying a ticket to something especially with tickets being so expensive, sometimes you'd rather use that money to go away for a weekend.'
