A widower has revealed how his late wife's ashes were found in a mortuary and not in her urn - amid a police investigation into a funeral parlour where 35 bodies were removed by detectives.
Richard Shaw paid for Legacy Independent Funeral Directors' services for his wife Rita's cremation in October last year.
The funeral directors, based in Hull, East Yorkshire, is under investigation following 'concerns for care of the deceased' - with a quantity of ashes as well as 35 bodies removed.
Mr Shaw, of Woodmansey, near Hull, said a detective called him on Friday to tell him his wife's ashes were found in the mortuary at Hull Royal Infirmary - despite him thinking he had collected them already.
'If the boot was on the other foot, if it was me [whose ashes had been found], she would be going crackers,' he told the BBC.

Mr Shaw said he still doesn't know whose ashes are inside the urn he was given, adding that he was given them 60 days after his wife's funeral.
The widower said he plans to spread the unknown person's ashes in his garden if they are not identified.
