Law firms should issue 'trigger warnings', a senior industry figure has said, amid growing fears for the mental health of City lawyers working from 9am to 11pm.

The plea from Colin Passmore comes just months after Vanessa Ford, a senior partner at Pinsent Masons, died while suffering an 'acute mental health crisis'.

And Mr Passmore, who is the chairman of the City of London Law Society, said he had had an 'epiphany' following Ms Ford's death last September.

Some lawyers in the City work more than 3,000 hours a year, which is equivalent to an 11.5-hour day for five days a week or an eight-hour day every day, and Mr Passmore said he recognised that 'something very serious is going on'. 

He told the Telegraph: 'That is a massive amount of work on any basis.
