Britons must revert to the 'old-fashioned belief' that work is good for you, the Work and Pensions Secretary said yesterday.

Mel Stride, who has said the nation's approach to tackling mental health issues may have 'gone too far', suggested the regular 'ups-and-downs of life' should not be 'labelled' or 'medicalised'.

Last month it emerged that 2.8million have left the workforce due to long-term sickness – the most since the 1990s.
