The creator of TV's Father Ted who believes those who support the gender transition of youngsters are child abusers has been praised following a bombshell review into NHS transgender treatment.

Fans of Graham Linehan said he was vindicated by the Cass Review's conclusion that medical treatment in children's gender care had been based on weak evidence.

The review's final report said children have been let down by a lack of research and evidence on the use of puberty blockers and hormones amid a hugely toxic debate.

In recent years the Irish comedy writer has become a vocal critic of trans ideology and activism, claiming it is harming children and eroding women's rights.

Linehan was even banned by Twitter in 2020 for saying 'men aren't women' and his views have seen him shunned as he lost his agent, TV career and marriage.

Today, fans claimed the comedian had finally been vindicated after facing abuse for years and being 'cancelled'. And 55-year-old Linehan tweeted: 'I'm proud if I had any part in enabling a wider understanding of what the process of grooming involves.

'The internet allowed the trans movement to engage in it at an unprecedented scale. I must also thank social worker Lisa M for opening my eyes to the extent of it.'

On his X account, @Glinner, he also tweeted a pinned image of quotes given to the BBC's Newsnight in February 2020 when he said: 'You don't tell children they could be born in the wrong body, because they are children and they will believe you.'

Among those sharing their support for Linehan after today's report was the Norwich Women's Rights Group, which tweeted: 'As the Cass Review documents the medical scandal of our lifetimes, Norwich Women's Rights Group thank our good friend @Glinner for all he has done to warn the world about 20+ years of damage to kids. You were right. #GlinnerWasRight #CassReport.'

Comedy writer Josh Howie added: 'The hate and ridicule directed at Graham by colleagues in the comedy industry these last years has disgusted me.

'He was right and he was brave and he was utterly vilified for it. Let's see if even one of those brave 'truth tellers' now apologises.'

And gender identity ideology campaigner Louise Ashworth tweeted: 'I hope that anyone who incredulously asked @Glinner why he cared so much or why he was willing to lose friends and career will hang their heads in shame #CassReport.'

Last October, Linehan claimed he had been dropped by his TV agent Independent Talent after branding David Tennant an 'abusive groomer' on social media.
