Pret a Manger loyalists have shared their outrage at being unable to cash in on subscriber perk 'free drinks' due to alleged issues with the smartphone app.

The popular sandwich shop has been busy rolling out updates that require Club Pret subscribers to order through the app - after QR codes were deemed exploitable by chancers sharing access with friends.

But pre-paid members now say they are unable to collect the five Barista-made coffees they are entitled to daily due to technical issues with the app.

'The Pret app is so useless. It is giving me rage,' one user wrote on Twitter/X this week.

'Just tried to use the club Pret app and told mines not working - up to date and active - spoke to like I'm stupid and questioned if it's my app not how I planned to start my day,' another chimed in.

Pret has responded a deluge of concerns about the state of the app, with complaints varying from tech problems to the general 'faff' of now having to open to app with support for Apple Wallet no longer in place. 

Club Pret is a monthly subscription allowing aficionados up to five free drinks a day for £30 per month. It also includes 20 per cent off the menu.

Until March, subscribers were able to redeem their coffees and discounts by showing a QR code as proof of identity across some 450 stores nationwide.

But amid fears the system was vulnerable to exploitation by more cunning coffee enthusiasts, the chain reported from March 18, customers would have to log in via an app to access their QR code instead.

The changes also meant they would no longer be able to add the subscription to their phone wallets.
