A creepy doll in a  three-foot-tall stick cage has been sold for £100 in what could be Britain's most bizarre charity shop purchase.

The unsettling grey doll with a shaggy brown wig was snapped up by a customer in a YMCA shop in Hove.

The mannequin, which sits in a wicker cage had been up for sale for less than a week when a picture of it was posted on Facebook.

After locals shared their shock at the grubby-looking item, it was snapped up by a customer who told the shop staff they planned to use it as a prop at Whitby's Goth Festival later this month.

Staff at the coastal charity shop said they were glad the creepy doll had been sold and believed it had been a prop for a TV show.

The assistant manager of the store, Chris, said: 'It was a bit baffling and creepy on the shop floor.

'We're all glad its gone.

'We weren't expecting it to go that quickly.'

The shop worker said he had never seen anything as bizarre as the doll and said that all the staff could gather was that it had been a prop of a TV series.

The prop was bought after photos of it were shared on Facebook.

Rebecca Jayne spotted the item in the store and shared a picture of it to Facebook.

The post attracted hundreds of comments discussing what it is and many were repulsed by it.
