A council has scrapped plans to name a new park after Licorice Allsorts lollies due to concerns the branding would be 'racially offensive'.

The City of Sydney was planning to call the new amenity on Rothschild Ave in the inner city suburb of Rosebery Allsorts Park in recognition of the confectionery factory that had occupied the site but the idea was met with substantial disapproval.

Local residents voiced their opposition along with the council's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Advisory Panel, which pointed out the brand name was a historical derogatory term for people of mixed race.
