A married detective chief inspector videoed himself having sex with a vulnerable junior officer while on duty, a court has heard.

Detective Chief Inspector David 'Will' Rolls is accused of using his senior position to take advantage of the female officer.

Rolls, who has since resigned as detective chief inspector with Sussex Police, went on trial at Lewes Crown Court charged with misconduct in a public office. He denies having any sexual relations with the woman.

Jurors heard how on one occasion, the 46-year-old sent the alleged victim an explicit photograph of himself and later visited her home, where he exposed himself to her and asked: 'Is there anything else?'

The pair later went on to have sex on the floor of her home with Rolls allegedly filming or taking photos on his mobile phone, before saying he had to leave to go shopping for his wife.

On another occasion he visited her home again and asked her to perform a sex act on him, which she did.

When asked why she did this, the junior officer said she had done it to please the senior officer, who, the court was told, was married with two children.

The court heard how the alleged victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had suffered health problems.

Jurors were told yesterday how Rolls met the junior female officer, who also worked with Sussex Police, in the summer of 2016 and began sending her a series of 'flirty texts'.

But in January and February 2017 his relationship with the junior officer began to change and Rolls became increasingly flirty and started to exchange photos - including an explicit one sent by Rolls of himself.

On another occasion, he visited her house and as he was leaving she could see he was aroused.

Alisdair Smith, prosecuting, said the defendant then asked the female officer if she 'wanted a hug' and then asked her to carry out a sex act on him.

Mr Smith said: 'Asked why she had done this she said it was to please him.

'If you are sure, members of the jury, that she did what she describes and that she did it for the reasons that she gave then, the prosecution say, that is a good example of the way in which he was taking advantage of his position to get that sexual advantage from her.'

Whilst Rolls was at her house, the pair began kissing and the alleged victim 'took off her top and bra'
