A one-year-old baby has been mauled to death by three large dogs while he was being looked after by babysiter in a Dallas suburb on Monday morning.

The child has been named as Shiraz Asirvadam.

According to Duncanville Police Chief Matthew Stogner, Shiraz was in the home when the three dogs escaped from their pen and came inside.

The homeowner's three other children were inside the house at the time. They were unharmed.

Investigators are attempting to establish if the homeowner was running an illegal daycare out of the home, reports NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.

The babysitter's former husband, David Trout, told NBC that she attempted to dive in to separate the dogs from the child and was hurt in the process.

Stogner said that first responders had responded to the scene in attempt to save the child's life but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries at Children's Medical Center in Dallas.
