Campaigners have accused police of 'caring more about protecting a predator than women' after they refused to name or picture a depraved pervert who they fear is a 'risk to women'.

Cambridgeshire Police said a man in his 30s, from Peterborough, has been slapped with a Sexual Risk Order after displaying 'very concerning and escalating' behaviour over a number of years.

This includes paying sex workers to pander to his fetishes such as licking his boots while he performs sexual acts on himself. During one incident, a woman was forced to assault the predator to escape.

While the order now bans him from entering a specific area of Peterborough city centre between 7pm and 7am for the next two years, police have refused to identify him to the public.

Dr Charlotte Proudman condemned the police, telling MailOnline: 'This man might very well pose a significant risk to women and we have a right to know who he is. It’s deeply concerning that the police care more about protecting a predator than they do about protecting women, no wonder so few women trust the police.'

The barrister, who specialises in violence against women, added: 'It’s also not clear why this man hasn’t been convicted of any criminal offences given his behaviour is considered very concerning and has escalated towards women.

'If the police really want to deter him and other men from violence, they should be named. The police are not fit for purpose.'

Campaigner Patsy Stevenson said that the unidentified man is prowling the streets with 'women on a platter' and warned 'more needs to be done immediately'.

Ms Stevenson, who was arrested at Sarah Everard's vigil when trust in police was at an all-time low, told MailOnline: 'I think the way that we're going at the moment in society with misogyny, we're seeing time and time again that it's not being taken seriously enough.'

Cambridge Police said that the predator was first given a conditional caution for soliciting sex in May 2015 - but he has continued to do so repeatedly in an area of Peterborough where there are known street sex workers.

In recent months, the man has been reported to pay women to large amounts of money to cut their hair, place it in his boots and make them smell it while he carried out sexual acts.

Police said that on one occasion, he picked up a woman and took her to a petrol station where he made her lick his boots in front of people while he stood on her hands.

When MailOnline quizzed the police force about how anyone would recognise the pervert, they said: 'While no court order was made to prohibit the naming of the man, we have chosen not to release this information as we do not believe it is proportionate given he has not been convicted of any criminal offences and the [Sexual Risk Order] was intended as a deterrent.'

The force said the purpose of their press release about the man was 'for public information and to highlight the action taken by the local Neighbourhood Policing Team'.

Ms Stevenson, whose arrest became one of the defining images of Ms Everard's vigil, told MailOnline that she can 'understand
