Homeland Security Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas defended his performance overseeing the border one day after the Senate dismissed articles of impeachment against him.

On Wednesday, Democrat senators voted kill the two articles of impeachment against Mayorkas passed by the House, ending the first trial of a cabinet secretary in 150 years early.

Less than 24 hours later, Mayorkas faced a grilling by visibly angry Senate Republicans who are still demanding he take responsibility for policies that have allowed an estimate nine million illegal migrants to enter the U.S.

The top Republican leading a hearing on the department's proposed 2025 budget Thursday told Mayorkas that he's disappointed and bewildered that 'Democrats let you get away with it.'

'You refuse to look at the facts and it's still, I guess, insulting to all of us and insulting to the memory of Lake and Riley and to the memory of others who have been killed by people who came into this country,' Paul, R-Ky., said.

'I have not read the articles of impeachment,' Mayorkas shockingly admitted when another senator, Mitt Romney of Utah, pressed him on the articles.

House Republicans voted to impeach Mayorkas in February for high crimes and misdemeanors related to his handling of the U.S. border and for lying to Congress. The senate voted to dismiss those articles of impeachment on Wednesday
