Furious wine fans say they have been scammed out of thousands of pounds for a murder mystery event - after organisers failed to book the venues and disappeared with their cash.

Customers handed over £65 each for one of four 1920s Wine Escape event happening in Cornwall this week. But venues told MailOnline no booking was ever made.

The first was due to be held at the St Ives Harbour Hotel in Cornwall on Thursday night and promised an 'exclusive party' including a two course meal. But hotel staff confirmed organisers never booked the event with them.

A staff member told MailOnline 'It's an external event and they advertised they were using our facilities but we never heard from them. We've had a number of disappointed people calling about the event today'.

Among the disappointed customers was Dannii Moss and five friends who booked tickets for the event to celebrate her birthday costing £390.
