A biologist was arrested by Mexican authorities for allegedly murdering a 17-year-old girl and stabbing her mother.
Authorities are now looking into whether Miguel Cortés is also behind the murders of 20 other women.
The 39-year-old is accused of raping and strangling María José at her home in the Mexico City borough of Iztacalco on Tuesday morning.
Surveillance camera showed the pharma biological chemist approaching her home moments after her mother, Cassandra, had left for an errand.
María José was preparing herself to leave for school when Cortés sexually assaulted and then stabbed the teenager. Cassandra then returned to the home and saw him walking out of her daughter's room.
Cortés plunged the blade into Cassandra's face and back as she tried to stop him from leaving.
