China's ambassador to Britain summoned to the Foreign Office amid allegations ... trends now

China's ambassador to Britain has been summoned to the Foreign Office today, after two British men were charged with spying for Beijing.

The Foreign Office said Zheng Zeguang would be told of the UK's 'significant concerns at interference in UK democratic institutions'.

At the same time Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the Minister for the Indo-Pacific, will set out the UK's concerns to the Chinese government on a visit to the country.

It comes after Christopher Cash, 29, a Tory parliamentary researcher and China specialist, and former teacher Christopher Berry, 32, were charged with an offence under the Official Secrets Act.

They are due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday charged with providing prejudicial information to a foreign state - China.

Mr Cash has previously said he is 'completely innocent', and yesterday a Chinese Embassy spokesman said allegations the country was engaged in espionage were 'completely fabricated and nothing but
