Rishi Sunak gave another strong hint at tax cuts for the election today as he insisted the government can boost defence spending and ease the pressure on workers.
On a visit to Berlin, the PM argued that slashing civil service numbers would free up money for his priorities.
He insisted the plans to hit 2.5 per cent of GDP on defence are 'fully funded' and he will still be able to 'invest in public services and cut people's taxes'.
The comments came amid Tory nerves over whether Chancellor Jeremy Hunt will be able to announce more tax curbs before the country goes to the polls.
Many MPs are pinning their hopes on the move as a way to revive the party's prospects of staying in power.
