Thousands of people on Universal Credit and other benefits will be paid earlier than usual next week.

The Early May Bank Holiday on Monday, May 6, will affect payments scheduled for that date as banks will not be processing benefits.

This means the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will make the payments slightly earlier.

If your benefit was due to be paid on May 6, it will instead be paid on the earliest prior working day on Friday, May 3.

There is also another bank holiday later in May which could also affect your payment date (stock image)
