A TV soap actress has revealed how she quit her job as a Welsh councillor because a man threatened her mother and father in their home.
Shelley Rees, who has appeared on a number of soaps over the last three decades including Casualty, Emmerdale and Pobol y Cwm, was elected to represent the Pentre ward in Rhondda Cynon Taf in 2012, and was re-elected with an increased majority in 2017.
But the former Plaid Cymru councillor told the BBC that she refused to stand at the last local elections, held in May 2022, because a resident of the area she represented threatened her family while she was at work.
'This man knocked on the door - I knew who he was, but I hardly knew him - but for some reason he'd decided to go to mam and dad's house and threaten me. I was so upset.'
She did not reveal who the man was, and added that she did not know what the reason for the threat was.
