The family of a little boy killed in a horror car crash in Sydney's west have no idea how the smash happened, or why he and his mum were on the road at 3am.

Emergency services rushed to Christie Street in St Marys in the early hours of last Friday after a Hyundai Getz hit a parked truck and trailer.

Jamielee Matthews, 38, and her four-year-old son Brax Grover had to be freed from the wreckage by first responders before they were were taken to hospital in critical conditions.

Brax lost his fight for life hours later, just a few weeks shy of his fifth birthday, just months after the passing of his grandfather.

Brax's aunt Simone Gittoes told Daily Mail Australia she has launched a Go Fund Me fundraiser to raise $7,000 to give her nephew 'the send off he deserves'.

Ms Gittoes, who is the partner of Brax's uncle Daniel, said the family remain in the dark about the extent of Ms Matthews' injuries and why the mother and son were on the road at 3am in the morning.
