The latest instalment of Clarkson's Farm has launched on Prime Video as the popular show returns for a third series.

With viewers eagerly anticipating what is to come on Diddly Squat Farm throughout the show's third series, MailOnline takes a look at how Clarkson took over the farm, despite having no previous farming experience.

Clarkson, 64, who bought the 312-acre farm in 2012 for £4.25million, said that he chose to do so because he would not be required pay death duties on the land.

Speaking to The Times he said: 'Rather than just have money in the bank, and get a statement with numbers written on it that gives no one any pleasure at all, you could derive a great deal of pleasure and pass it on to your children.'

The farm was run by a farmer called Howard until two years ago, when he retired.

Clarkson decided to takeover and his exploits were turned into the hugely popular TV show starring himself and partner, Lisa Hogan.

Detailing his reasons for buying the farm, Clarkson wrote: 'Land is a better investment than any bank can offer. The Government doesn't get any of my money when I die. And the price of the food that I grow can only go up.

'But there is another, much more important reason: I can now have a quad bike.

'I have always loved the idea. They are like motorbikes but they don't fall over when you leave them alone, they look great and they bring a bit of civilisation to Britain's rather dreary green and brown bits.'

Clarkson's plans for the estate where validated by the council in 2016 and it did not take long for him to renovate the 312-acre site.

The former Top Gear presenter blew up Curdle Hill Farmhouse to make way for a spectacular six-bedroom mansion as part of a spectacular stunt on his Amazon show The Grand Tour.

The property, which includes a basement cinema, attic games room, orangery, room for five cars, a special garage for his quad bikes, a yard for horses, six bedrooms and five bathrooms, is just down the road from his long-time friend David Cameron who has a home in the village of Dean.

The barns and gardens were also given a glamorous makeover, complete with a vegetable patch, potting shed and plant room.

Clarkson even set up his own farmer's market, Diddly Squat Shop, which hit the headlines in 2020 for selling 'non-organic' potatoes and other fresh produce, promising to undercut even Aldi prices.
