A substitute teacher allegedly punched a student after being hit with a racial slur, prosecutors claim.

The incident happened at a high school in east Las Vegas April 25, and Re'Krwon Smith, 27, faces charges of battery and assault on a school pupil as a result.

The altercation was also caught on a camera by another Valley High School student, one not involved in the attack.

Cuffed after the hallway brawl, Smith was released the Friday after in anticipation of a court date set for May 28, where he will also enter pleas for charges of interfering with a student attending school and being a threat to a student.

The student allegedly lost consciousness briefly after being punched, and is said to have been taken to the hospital for treatment. His identity and injuries, however, were not immediately revealed.

'Do something,' the student responds, before allegedly hitting the substitute with the racial slur.    

This led to Smith 'charging' and hitting the student, Clark County School District Police wrote - as video showed the singular blow leaving the boy crumpled on the ground.

 In an interview with police, Smith confirmed he had punched the student after the minor called him a racial slur, before being locked up overnight and posting bail.

A Clark County Judge said he released Smith because he lacked a criminal history and was not determined to be a flight risk, and ordered he avoid any further arrests and
