A female driver was left terrified after a fake police officer tried to pull her over - but two police force's mistakes mean the man will not be quizzed.

The woman was speeding at 80mph on the M1 northbound in Leicestershire, March 25, last year, when the fake officer drove close to her and signalled with a 'black wallet' that had a police badge on it that she should pull over.

She did not stop for the fake cop - who used to be a policeman - because she feared what a lone male officer might do could be similar to the actions of rapist and murderer Wayne Couzens.

It was later confirmed that even though she said he waved a police badge at her, he was not a officer, although he had previously worked in a force.

The woman said she felt let down by the police and dreaded to think what would have happened if she had stopped for the man.

Yet despite the driver reporting him, he will not be quizzed because of a series of police failures that both Northamptonshire and Leicestershire forces have apologised for.

'He's looking at me, not the road ahead and the window wasn't open on my side, but it was on his passenger side and he's waving the badge that I can clearly see is a black wallet with a police crest badge stuck on the outside.

'I immediately thought of Wayne Couzens and David Carrick. I was
