Labour's Lisa Nandy endured a humiliating moment on BBC Question Time as none of the show's audience agreed defector MP Natalie Elphicke would be an asset.
The shadow minister was forced to watch on as not one person in the studio raised their hand when asked if the Dover MP would boost Labour's cause.
But Ms Nandy shrugged off the embarrassment on last night's show and said it would be an 'abrogation of responsibility' not to accept Ms Elphicke into her party.
'We have to start winning, we have to force a general election and we have to rebuild this country so that it's in the service of working people again,' she said.

Despite Sir Keir Starmer's delight at another Tory MP defecting to his party, there has been a backlash within Labour ranks at his acceptance of Ms Elphicke.
An ally of the Labour leader today defended the move and insisted Ms Elphicke had switched sides 'with a purpose' and 'not out of personal ambition'.
Wes Streeting, the shadow health secretary, revealed he has has spoken to more Tories considering a defection - but insisted Labour would not accept just any MP.
