Neighbours of a heartless thug who avoided jail after brutally attacking two dogs say he was looking after his boss's pets.

Thomas Hardy, 32, was caught on CCTV punching a Cockapoo five times before strangling her and swinging her around by the neck.

Horrifying footage shows the father squeezing the terrified pet between his legs before throwing her into a lift in an apartment block in County Durham.

In one clip, the pup is seen cowering in the lift as Hardy kicks her before turning to smash the security camera in a fit of rage.

One shocked local, who asked not to be named, said Hardy claimed the dogs were his boss's.
