Former Olympic swimmer Scott Miller has said he was introduced to drugs through his relationship with his ex-wife Charlotte Dawson before spiralling into addiction and landing in jail.

Miller, 49, was sentenced in Sydney's Downing Centre District Court on Friday for running an ice supply ring in 2020 in Sydney's inner west where the drugs were hidden in instant noodle containers.

The silver medalist had pleaded guilty to supplying a large commercial quantity of drugs and directing a criminal group.

He was sentenced to four years and given a non-parole period of one year.

With time already served, Miller could be a free man by next Wednesday.

During Friday's court appearance, Miller submitted an affidavit claiming his courtship and 1999 marriage to the late glamorous TV host and socialite Dawson put him on a dark path.

Dawson took her own life in 2014, a day after Miller turned 39.
