A LEEDS United footballer's Land Rover smashed into a police car outside the club's stadium - ahead of the team's crucial play-off semi-final tonight.

The crash happened as players were set to report to Elland Road this morning ahead of the second-leg Championship clash with Norwich City being played there.

Shocking pictures show a Land Rover Defender, belonging to defender Charlie Cresswell, and a severely damaged West Yorkshire Police patrol car.

It is unknown if England under-21 star Cresswell, 21, was driving the £60,000 4x4 or how the collision happened.

Emergency services attended the smash, near to the club ticket office on Elland Road, which happened shortly before 10.15am this morning.

A police officer sustained minor injuries, West Yorkshire Police said.
