Alan Bates says he will REJECT compensation over Horizon IT scandal for second ... trends now

Alan Bates has said he will reject compensation over Horizon IT scandal for the second time after the Government offered just under a third of what he has requested.

The flag bearer for the post office scandal revealed his 'ongoing uphill struggle' for justice after he was offered just 30 per cent of what he believes he is owed.

This will be the second offer that Mr Bates has rejected, the first offer in January was around 16 per cent and he described it as 'cruel, offensive and derisory'.

Now, he has branded the process as 'cloaked in secrecy', after his more than 20 years long campaign against the Post Office continues to drag on.

After years of campaigning against this decision, he would uncover that he was just one of around 900 sub-postmasters who were wrongly prosecuted over the software issues.

'I mean we obviously challenged the initial claim and now it's gone back and come again. It seems to be an ongoing uphill struggle, not just for me, but for other sub-postmasters too,' he told the Telegraph.

Mr Bates added: 'The whole thing seems to be cloaked in secrecy not transparency, which you would hope it would be.'

Christopher Head, formerly the UK's youngest postmaster, spoke to MailOnline and said the process feels like the Post Office is being 'vindictive' towards Mr Bates and 'punishing' the rest of them.

'It feels like a vindictive approach, in my view, Alan obviously led this from the start. Obviously the scandal would not have been where it is, and we would not have blown as wide open as we have without all the work that Alan's done over the years.

'I think [this] is almost like a punishment for him holding them to account, exposing all of it.'
