Diversions and lane closures for endless roadworks can be the bane of a driver's life.
But Swiss engineers have come up with a novel way to, quite literally, get over the problem.
The Astra Bridge is a mobile construction site that allows vehicles to carry on driving while the roadworks continue underneath on the original carriageway.
It has been put into operation in the Swiss region of Recherswil-Luterbach on a highway to Zurich.
It is expected to be in operation until mid-August, with work carried out during the day without closures or diversions.
Swiss engineers first piloted the concept in 2022, but the traffic flow did not settle as desired during the pilot operation.
