Jeromy Harris and Nicholas Crilley charged with torture

A former professional soccer player is charged with drugging a woman before torturing and burning her over three weeks.

Jeromy Lee Harris, 41, played for the Sydney Olympic Sharks and the Brisbane Strikers in their National Soccer League-winning teams in 1992 and 2002.

His co-accused, Nicholas John Crilley, was dramatically arrested in a high-speed car chase through Brisbane on Monday after he rammed police vehicles.

Crilley's girlfriend Tanya Nicole Roberts, 21, was found badly injured in Harris' Brisbane St, Bulimba, unit on July 2 after a panicked man made an anonymous call to police.

Harris retired from pro soccer in 2008 to become a mortgage broker and financial planner, and his Sunshine Home Loans business is based in the same suburb.

He was also a player relations officer for Professional Footballers Australia in 2009 to 2012 before entering the financial industry.

The former midfielder will face the Brisbane Magistrate's Court on Friday charged with grievous bodily harm, torture, and deprivation of liberty.

Police also alleged he used a 'destructive substance' with intent to disfigure Ms Roberts between June 20 and July 3, 2017, and supplied both her and Crilley with the drug Alprazolam. 

Detective Senior Sergeant Rod Watts said Ms Roberts, who is still in critical condition, sustained 'horrific' injuries including burns to her body, and facial fractures.

'We believe the injuries occurred over a number of weeks but we're uncertain of where they've taken place,' he said on
