Two Laval residents were injured — one of them seriously — Monday afternoon after the motorcycle they were riding collided with a car on a highway in northeast Prince Edward Island.

The RCMP said the 68-year-old male driver of the motorcycle suffered serious injuries while his passenger was also hospitalized, although her injuries are not deemed to be life threatening.

The driver of the car, a resident of Ontario, was not injured.

The accident occurred on Highway 2 near Rollo Bay, west of Souris. The circumstances surrounding the crash have yet to be established.

RCMP accident reconstruction technicians are examining the scene.
