The search for a couple who vanished in Joshua Tree National Park in temperatures hit the triple digits.

Joseph Orbeso, a 21-year-old from Lakewood, and Rachel Nguyen, a 20-year-old from Westminster, were last seen leaving their bed and breakfast to go hiking on Thursday.

Police were alerted to their disappearance after they failed to check out of the b&b the next day, leaving their belongings behind.

San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies, California Highway Patrol officers and K-9 units launched a huge manhunt with 100 searchers scouring the park for Nguyen and Orbeso on Saturday and Sunday. The effort continued Monday with air support from the U.S. Border Patrol.

But they had to call off the efforts on Tuesday as temperatures hit a sweltering 100 degrees and members of the rescue team suffered medical issues due to the heat.

The search effort is expected to resume Wednesday morning.
