Quebec’s independent investigations unit (BEI) is investigating a police chase that began in Terrebonne early Tuesday and ended in Mascouche with the pursued vehicle crashed into a tree and two suspects injured — one of them critically.
Information garnered thus far by the BEI shows the chase began at 4:05 a.m., when Terrebonne police intercepted a convoy of three vehicles, one of them stolen, on Highway 640 in Terrebonne.
Police gave chase and were able to intercept one of the three vehicles, a second car fled while police pursued the third car into the city of Mascouche, where it eventually collided with a tree.
The driver and passenger in the car, both of them 18, were seriously injured. While the driver’s injuries are not deemed to be life threatening, the passenger is in critical condition in hospital.
The BEI has assigned nine investigators to the case and the Sûreté du Québec’s accident reconstruction specialists are providing technical support to the probe.
The BEI investigates any police operation in Quebec that results in injury or death.
