A woman in her 20s was arrested in a Quebec City home Thursday night after residents complained to police of images posted on social media depicting cruelty to animals.

Quebec City police took the woman from the address in the city’s Limoilou district to the station, where she was booked on charges of animal cruelty and bestiality, suggesting police suspect a sexual act involving an animal occurred.

The woman was released from custody after signing a promise to appear in court.

Two dogs and a cat were in the residence when police made their arrest. The animals have been sent to a local shelter for care.
