A man has thanked his mum for saving his life after she urged doctors to quickly address a leg infection that ended up as a life-threatening illness.
Rev Aparis, 33, originally from Perth, was admitted to hospital in Sydney on December 9 with an infection in his thigh.
'I was in bed for a week thinking what I had was gout,' Mr Aparis told 9Honey.

He was told he needed emergency surgery due to the infection and surgeons drained as much of the infection as they could
Mr Aparis's doctor only gave him tablets in order to help the inflammation of his thigh go down.
This was the beginning of a nine-week hospital stay for Mr Aparis who then needed to have surgery.
Mr Aparis had a 10cm hole cut into his thigh to wash out the infected area and close the wound.
But after eight surgeries, despite Mr Aparis feeling better, he suddenly had a fever of 40.5 and his thigh was hurting again.
