Gold Coast bikie father pens letter about his dead son

The father of a former bikie associate shot dead by police has written an emotional tribute to his 'mentally unhinged' son who he claims was 'taken down like an animal'.

Liam Scorsese, 31, was killed on Sunday morning after he allegedly lunged at police with a knife as they stopped him from breaking into his ex-girlfriend's Brisbane home.

Officers tasered the known associate of the Comanchero bikie club, and then shot him twice when he did not respond to the shock.

His father Peter Maloney has admitted in an open-letter that his son had 'diabolical lows', but accused police of taking a heavy-handed approach on the morning he died, Gold Coast Bulletin reported.

'My son Liam was troubled at times. He was at times, mentally unhinged, with extreme highs and diabolical lows ... he was no saint, but he was not heartless,' he wrote.

'The statement that the 'Taser didn't work' is so convenient. The police carry pepper spray — why was that not used?

'What about shooting to kill as a last resort? No, instead you took him down like an animal.'

Mr Maloney also described his son as a 'business man' and entrepreneur who had the personality of a movie star before he was killed.

The heartbroken father also vowed to not rest until his son 'has justice', while welcoming an inquest into his death.

Witnesses claim Scorsese had screamed 'shoot me' to the officers, after he was caught trying to break into his ex-girlfriend's home on Sunday, The Courier Mail reported.
