A British tourist photographing waves at Praia Formosa on the Portuguese island of Madeira has been washed away and is feared dead, local media has reported.

The unnamed man, believed to be aged about 60, ignored all warnings and passed the area closed off for safety protection by the Atlantic Palms Hotel, reported.
