Arson is suspected in a Sunday morning fire in an apartment building on Wurtele St. between Rouyn and Hochelaga Sts. in the borough of Ville-Marie.

No one was injured.

Firefighters extinguished the fire in the eight-unit apartment building and, having determined that it was suspicious in nature, asked for police assistance at about 9:40 a.m.

Shortly afterward, a 50-year-old man was arrested in connection with the fire.

The arson squad is now in charge of the event, said Montreal police spokesman Benoit Boisselle, and the fire is considered criminal in nature.

Two of the building’s eight units were damaged by water and smoke. A Red Cross bus was on site Sunday morning to assist residents evacuated from the building.

Wurtele between Hochelaga and Rouyn Sts. was closed to traffic for an indeterminate period.
