Man dies nearly three weeks after he caught on fire while pumping gas in Atlanta

A man, who suffered severe burns on most of his body after he caught on fire while pumping gas in Georgia, died on Monday. 

The man, whose identity has not been released, was pumping gas around 12pm on April 25 at a Texaco when the incident occurred. 

Witnesses said they couldn't see exactly what happened because the man caught on fire so quickly.

'Fire was all over his body,' witness Amos Terry told WSB-TV shortly after the fire. 

'I just seen him running across, running across the lot there.'   

A few witnesses said they rushed over to help the man remove his clothes before firefighters from the Atlanta Fire Department extinguished the fire and turned off the gas pumps at the gas station.  

First responders treated the victim's burns and rushed him to a local hospital.

The man remained in critical condition with burns over 80 per cent of his body
