Five men were arrested in Montreal Thursday as police dismantled what they described as a “very active” heroin trafficking ring.
The men, aged between 24 and 38, are expected to be charged with drug trafficking, drug possession and possession of prohibited firearms.
The operation was launched in February after a tip from the public and was a joint effort between the Montreal, Laval and Mirabel police forces.
Officers conducted seven raids in the northern and western parts of Montreal, seizing the following: more than two kilograms of heroin, 55 grams of cocaine, five handguns, two larger firearms, two cars, 13 cellphones and roughly $15,800 in cash.
Police say the drug ring, which mostly trafficked heroin, operated in western and northern Montreal, but its reach also extended into Laval.
