A cow tied to the back of a trailer pulled by a ute has led to a grim discovery and a man being charged with shocking animal cruelty offences.

The 67-year-old man from the New South Wales mid-north coast will face court on two counts of convey animal unjustifiably inflict pain and being in charge of an animal fail to provide vet treatment.

Confronting images of the cows have emerged, including one of a calf that had succumbed to negligent treatment.
