A 24-year-old man died early Friday after a head-on collision on a highway in the Montérégie.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 22-year-old man, fled the scene after the impact but was later arrested by the Sûreté du Québec.

The crash occurred at 1 a.m. on Highway 221 near St-Isidore. The victim’s car rolled over several times after the collision before coming to rest in a ditch and catching fire.

Police suspect the driver, who faces criminal charges in connection with the incident, may have been driving while impaired.
